Fortress of Louisbourg and back to Lunenburg

Today, we left North Sydney and drove over to the town of Louisbourg, which is famous for it's 18th century French Fortress. This fortress is the largest reconstruction of a colonial fort in North America. It is very large, and yet, it is still only about 20% complete. It is a Canadian National Historic Site now and there is ongoing construction and archeology. It is always quite fascinating to peek into our history a bit. The Fortress at Louisbourg was a major trading center and French military fort during the colonial period. You can find out more by looking at some pics below and visiting the Parks Canada site.

After we left Louisbourg, we made our way back across Nova Scotia to Lunenburg, where we will be staying for the rest of the trip. As usual, enjoy the pics...
