Father's Day Worship

I received a call the other day asking if I would lead the songs for the worship service this Sunday at FBC. I should give you some background first... The regular worship team has been given some time off this summer to rest, recoup and regroup. Also, this weekend is Family Camp, which means that many of our musicians will be away. All of this lead up to my being asked to fill in.

I am pretty excited about the opportunity, and LOVE to lead in worship. Please pray as I practice for Sunday that God would bless our service and people would be focused more on the God we worship than the change in the worship program. :)

The Amazing Race

Breanne left with the G.A.I.T. (middle school) group from church yesterday on their Amazing Race summer trip. They are up in the Mackinac Island / Mackinaw City area for most of the week and arrive home on Thursday evening.

This trip will mark a milestone for her. It will be the last middle school trip she will take. This fall, Bre will be a Freshman at Lakeshore Baptist Academy, and will move up to the 447 (senior high) group at church.

We will update you on the Amazing Race results as we find out more about her trip.

Birthday Parties

OK, I know I'm 40, but Hey! I still like birthday parties as much as the next person. OK, maybe more. Can I help it if I never grew up, just grew older? Well, maybe, but don't expect that to change any time soon. ;-)

A while ago, Liz asked me if there was anything I wanted to do in particular for my birthday party. She graciously and lovingly throws me one every year and invites a small group of our friends over. This year, I told her that it would be cool to play paintball in the morning and then have everyone come over with their families for a cookout afterward.

I had no thought of how much work that might take, and as a guy, I was just thinking "slap some burgers and hot dogs on the grill and it'll be good." That kind of thinking is not what was going through Liz's head. I suspect that most women don't think like I do - probably a VERY good thing. So, I'm thinking a simple task and she was thinking a full meal in addition to what I had in mind. She graciously and diligently worked out all the details and pulled off a great time for us.

We (the guys) had a fun time playing paintball in the morning. Then we packed up and headed to our house for lunch. There was way more there than I would have thought to do. Salads, all kinds of soft drinks, etc, etc, etc. She did a great job! And, me? I had a great birthday party!

Turning 40

OK, so yesterday I turned 40. Everybody says that 40 is the "big one." I suppose it is perceived as the time when you are officially turning old. Well, I have to say, that's not how it felt to me.

40 was one of the best birthdays that I have had to date. I was constantly reminded throughout the day that other people care about me. I was also reminded of the massive grace that God has given me through His abundant love and sacrifice for me.

I can honestly say, that I do not feel any older at 40 than at 39, or for that matter since my early 30s. I feel like I have matured both Spiritually and emotionally, but not the gloom-and-doom of feeling old. I feel wiser than 30, but not "old." Maybe it's the teenagers in the Youth Group at Church that keep me feeling young, or maybe they are the reason that I have matured. Either way, I think I am going to enjoy 40 just the same...

FBC Street Party

Tomorrow is the annual Street Party at First Baptist in Spring Lake. Of course, we will be plenty involved during the event (that's the way we like it) :) There will be plenty for families to do. There will be many blow-up games, carnival-type games, roasted pigs, hot dogs, cotton candy, and more. The party is from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and is free to all, so come enjoy the wonderful weather and great fun with us!

Liz will doing animal balloons as SonShine the Clown. Breanne will be doing face painting. Sianna will be eating plenty of cotton candy. And, I will be helping out with whatever is needed, and in the Dunk Tank for an hour.

After the Street Party, we will be heading to a graduation open house at the park, and then home to crash after a long day...

Here We Go...

I have setup this blog to chronicle the happenings, vacations, and newsworthy events of the Guiles family. Hopefully, this will help our extended family and friends keep track of us and pray for us more insightfully. Thank you for taking the time to care about us and for being a part of our adventures!

So, hold onto your seats because, here we go...
